What do I do with even more time? Commentary on the ranks!
68. Cait Sith: Betrayed us to Shinra, so pray tell why we don't shove that bullhorn up his ass? 67. Palom & Porom: Damn it kids, no, you cannot come on the adventure with the grown-ups! Get back in the house! 66. Barret Wallace: I'd like one token black character, please. 65. Quina Quen: WTF. Seriously. WTF. 64. Tidus: This kid made me want to jerk my car into oncoming traffic. "Let's learn to laugh!" "Okay!" 63. Umaro: Throwing people at enemies is pretty cool, but other than that, he's rather uninteresting. 62. Zell Dincht: You know things are going bad when your addition to the game is getting insulted by Seifer. What a chickenwuss. 61. Strago & Relm: I will turn this adventure around if you kids don't shut up! Goes for you too, Gramps! 60. Selphie Tilmitt: I'm used to the chipper, hyperactive girl character, but I expect some contribution to the story. 59. Setzer Gabbiani: Once we got the keys to the airship, we should have tossed Powder the gambling magician out of it. 58. Yuffie Kisaragi: I pity the fool who lays a hand on my materia. 57. Eiko Carol: Don't make me come back there, ya little anklebiters! That's it! You're all grounded! 56. Penelo: If she were an ice cream flavor, she'd be "Water". No backstory, no love interest, just amazement she's on a quest. Hey, we're just as surprised, honey. 55. Rydia: Forgiving people for killing your mist dragon mother is lame. 54. Rikku: The first of the very tough calls. Unfortunately, her irritability outweighs her noble goal of saving Yuna in X. 53: Oerba Dia Vanille: Fitting that Vanille goes right above Rikku, because they are practically the same character, though Vanille is given a bad half-Australian accent. 52. Rosa Farrell: A pretty bland love interest. 51. Kiros & Ward: Easily lovable characters for following Laguna around all those years, but didn't do much for the story. 50. Gogo: Mimic is a very fun ability to use, but that doesn't excuse a second character who doesn't talk. 49. Edward Chris von Muir: Not that there's anything wrong with that, but this guy is totally gay. 48. Vaan: Only slightly less clueless than Tidus. Without a love story, he really lacks any remarkable conflict. "But I wanna be a sky pirate now!" 47. Freya Crescent: She's got a great backstory with her mate losing his memory, but at the end of the day, she's still a rat. 46. Gau: Another fun character to use, but another example of how VI overextended past its story with extraneous characters. 45. Irvine Kinneas: Everyone loves the ladies man, but blowing the assassination really frustrates this character. 44. Yang Fang Leiden: Sacrificing yourself is cool, but you have to stay dead. 43. Snow Villiers: Roughly likeable and confident, he really suffers because of the extreme lack of any direction for the party, of which he seems to be the source. 42. Wakka: We all loved his clumsy attempts with Lulu and the Chappu backstory, but what the Hell is with that accent? 41. Hope Estheim: his mother's death was a good start, but they draw out his confrontation with Snow too long. The end of Act I at his father's house is excellent, but not enough to hide a shallow character. 40. Amarant Coral: Finally, a dynamic character. He's fair, loyal, and a great lone wolf mercenary. 39. Mog: The most lovable Final Fantasy icon, the Dance skill is fun and makes him a valuable companion. 38. Quistis Trepe: "Got it bad, got it bad, got it bad... I'm hot for teacher..." 37. FuSoYa: One of the great old man characters, he added some serious firepower to your team on the moon. 36. Claire "Lightning" Farron: I like the design and costume, and she's well-acted, but there's no outlet for her anger and the plot interferes with her growth. 35. Adelbert Steiner: Probably the best comic relief character, we all rooted for him to get together with Beatrix. 34. Kimahri Ronso: He's wise, powerful, and ready to eat Tidus, which makes him cool, but they screwed him on the Sphere Grid. 33. Fran: She's strange, I'll give you that, and the accent is cool, but uh… she's got bunny ears. Why does she have bunny ears? 32. Red XIII: The backstory in finding out about his father's sacrifice is excellent, and he looks great to boot. 31. Kain Highwind: An example of the perfect way to do the mind-controlled villain, in contrast to Cait Sith and Seifer. 30. Terra Branford: VI would have been lousy without her story to tie it all together. The Morph skill was pretty weak, though. 29. Lulu: Excellent writing and acting work great for Lulu and her two friends... and I ain't talkin' about Wakka and Kimahri! 28. Basch fon Ronsenberg: Apart from a bizarre costume, a great knight. Killing Vossler was a powerful moment, but after that, his role drops to nothing. 27. Edgar & Sabin Figaro: These brothers write the book on combining a great backstory and kicking butt with Blitz and Tools. 26. Tifa Lockhart: While half her charm is getting dumped for a dead girl, she's very fun to use and I was pulling for her and Cloud. 25. Zidane Tribal: The lonely thief, he represents the change for the series in focusing on happy-go-lucky main characters. 24. Oerba Yun Fang: Strong-willed and sagely, this combination character is the first "new" effort from Square we've seen in a long time. Unfortunately, the unintelligible plot nearly ruins her role at the climax of the game. 23. Tellah: He realizes at the end how petty his life was to be consumed by vengeance. That, my friends, is how you spell catharsis. 22. Shadow & Interceptor: An excellent antihero, his backstory as Relm's father is great, plus he is extremely strong and fast. 21. Paine: This new character in X-2 is great, using sarcasm as a perfect complement to Rikku. 20. Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca: Rinoa + Etiquette = Garnet, Garnet + Sacrifice = Yuna, Yuna + Angry = Ashe… The hard choice for power keeps her interesting, though. 19. Cyan Garamonde: Man, another pure tragedy. Unlike Kimahri, however, he actually reacts to the loss of his village. 18. General Beatrix: An extremely well-thought out character. I'd liked to have gained control of her after her turn, however. 17. Edward "Edge" Geraldine: The original ninja! Plus, they combine him with the cocky scoundrel, making him very likable. 16. Yuna: It's very easy to get along with the practical everywoman. She knows when to get serious and when to have fun. 15. Celes Chere: She changed the face of gaming with her suicide attempt; it really woke some people up to the medium. 14. Rinoa Heartilly: My favorite love interest, she is cute and cunning, imperfect and ideal. 13. Vincent Valentine: The shadowy vampire from VII is a crowd favorite, and has one of the best looking designs of the series. 12. Cid: Rogue or scholar, crazy or calculating, all his iterations bear a regality that helps the story expand its meaning. 11. Locke Cole: My favorite of the scoundrel characters until XII, his relationship with Celes is exhilirating and never holds back. 10. Garnet Til Alexandros XVII: My best of the misunderstood royalty characters, she's admirable and has more heart than Zidane. 9. Sazh Katzroy: It's really rare to see the comic relief character get so much dynamic, innovative screen time. The plot with Dajh with touching and necessary, and the climax with Vanille is chilling. 8. Laguna Loire: Just thinking about his hilarious demeanor makes me laugh, and the scene at Raine's grave is so touching. 7. Auron: By far, the best thing to come out of X. His costume is fantastic, he kicks ass, and makes an totally insane story bearable. 6. Aerith Gainsborough: She begins and ends VII, and while enigmatic at times, she does her best with the time she was given. 5. Vivi Ornitier: This guy is the real secret of IX. Identifying with his plight in the village shows how human he really is. 4. Cecil Harvey: You can't fade the original. He's one of the best dynamic characters... ever. 3. Balthier Bunansa: Is it fair to compare characters who aren't voice acted with those who are, and wonderfully so? Is it wrong to judge him simply on the quality of his writing? In short, no. A fantastic scoundrel character. 2. Squall Leonhart: My favorite hero, he had all the best elements in thoughtful silence, pragmatic actions, and total passion. 1. Cloud Strife: The Undisputed Prince of Modern Gaming. And, to all you GameFAQs voters: Crono sucks!
